Platte Co Extension Office is offering an exciting opportunity at no cost for students in 5th - 8th grades. Wyoming children will learn skills for preparing whole foods, reading recipes, keeping food safe and family mealtime. Children will be more connected with their family, earn better grades, eat more nutritious food and grow up to teach these same skills to their families. The food budget will give the children hands on experience in preparing simple, nutritious meals.
Cooking classes will focus on youth, nutrition, and food preparation, family togetherness at meal times, physical activity and reduction in screen time. Real Kids, Real Fun, Real Food will target latch key children grades 5-8. Children will learn basic food preparation skills and prepare simple family meals with whole and minimally processed foods. Children will attend afterschool cooking sessions designed to reinforce CORE and STEM skills learned at school. Students will create a logo for the project and produce a cookbook that includes food selection, preparation, food safety reminders, and physical activity information.
